Storage Conditions Store at controlled room temperature 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Use within 28 days after first broaching the vial. Do not freeze.
Dosages

Dog

  • Induction dose in unpremedicated dogs: 1.5 to 2.5 mg/kg IV; in premedicated dogs: 1.0 to 1.5 mg/kg IV (Intravenous (IV)) — Induction given slowly over 60 seconds to effect; maintenance by intermittent boluses (1.2 to 1.5 mg/kg) or CRI

Cat

  • Induction dose in unpremedicated cats: 3.0 to 5.0 mg/kg IV; in premedicated cats: 2.0 to 3.0 mg/kg IV (Intravenous (IV)) — Administer slowly over 60 seconds to effect

Indications
  • Induction and maintenance of anesthesia in dogs and cats.
  • For preanesthesia and procedural sedation in canine and feline patients.
Contraindications
  • Do not use in dogs or cats with known hypersensitivity to alfaxalone or any of the preservatives.
  • Do not use in animals where general anesthesia is contraindicated.
Precautions
  • Rapid administration may cause transient apnea, hypoventilation, or hypotension; administer slowly over 60 seconds.
  • Ensure endotracheal intubation equipment and oxygen supplementation are readily available.
  • Premedication significantly reduces the dose of alfaxalone required.
Side Effects
  • Dose-dependent respiratory depression, transient apnea, mild hypotension, hypothermia, and paddling or vocalization during emergence if unpremedicated.
