Indications

In pigs: treatment of respiratory diseases caused by microorganisms susceptible to chlortetracycline.

Contraindications

Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines or any excipients. Do not use in animals with severe hepatic or renal disorders.

Precautions

Use should be based on susceptibility testing and official/local antimicrobial-use policies. Inappropriate or prolonged use may increase the prevalence of resistant bacteria. If oral feed or water intake is insufficient because of illness, parenteral treatment may be required.

Side Effects

Chlortetracycline has low toxicity, but digestive disturbances may occur. Rare adverse effects include allergic reactions, photosensitivity, gastrointestinal disorders, and hepatic or renal dysfunction. If adverse effects are suspected, treatment should be discontinued.
