UltraCell (marketed for ruminants as UltraCell R) is an EU-authorized zootechnical feed additive (4b1871) containing high-potency live probiotic yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain NCYC R404). Selected specifically for its vigorous viability and metabolic activity within the rumen environment, UltraCell rapidly scavenges trace oxygen entering the rumen with feed, stimulating the proliferation of obligate anaerobic rumen microorganisms—particularly cellulolytic bacteria (Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus albus) and lactic-acid utilizing bacteria (Megasphaera elsdenii). This stabilizes rumen pH, prevents subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA), boosts volatile fatty acid (VFA) yield, and maximizes milk production and dietary fiber digestion.
